How does a mom do self care?????
Alright ladies it’s been a week and some self care is in order. Self care is my jam! Honestly, I do some sort of self care everyday and I will talk about that in a bit. Some weeks you just need a little more love, ya know? It’s been so cold in Iowa and getting outside is hard. We have been going a little stir crazy in our home so I think I need that little extra love this week.
As a mom, sometimes (or all the time) self care goes on the back burner as you’re busy taking care of everyone else. Let me just say, self care looks different for every mom. If you are having a hard time knowing what to do for self care I am going to give you some ideas of what I like to do.
As a stay at home mom or working mom, we constantly have a laundry list of things going on in our minds that sometimes it can seem so hard to relax. You understand what I mean! Self care does not have to be extravagant like going to get a facial or massage. It could be as simple as getting some sun every day or walking on your lunch break at work. I have some amazing self care ideas for you from free to “treating yourself”.
Ultimately, take some time for yourself! Think about how you are doing, reflect on the week. Self care is emotional, helps your mental health, it’s about listening to yourself and what YOU need. So let’s get to it!
Get outside
Step outside for a little bit whether it’s sunny or rainy. Being outside just does something to the soul.
Truthfully rest during the day
Take a half hour or hour and sit and watch a netflix show or just scroll instagram. Get off your feet and sit on the couch. Easy to say and hard to do sometimes.
A bath with your favorite bath bomb or essential oils
I wish I took more baths! Especially with one of those nice bath trays that can hold a glass of wine and a book, sign me up for that. Baths are so relaxing and are a great way to take 20-30 minutes for yourself without leaving home. If you live in the midwest in the winter like me then a bath always sounds nice because it’s so dang cold!
Move your body
My morning routine consists of working out, and this may not be your routine and that’s fine. I encourage you to find 20-30 minutes in your day to move your body. Exercise has physical benefits of course, but also mental benefits. Disclosure: I am not a doctor or health professional, I am just giving ideas of what has worked for me.
Journaling
My blog is kind of my journal and that’s what works for me. I was never into writing down my feelings or how my day went before, but I think there is a lot of power in reflection. So I guess my blog is like my journal to the world? I love that! Better yet, stick journaling in your morning routine to start your day off on the right note.
Fuel your body
This goes without saying, but eat nutritious foods. End of story!
Getting a manicure or pedicure
Every woman loves getting her nails and toes done. This is perfect alone time and I don’t know about you, but every time my nails are done I feel like a new woman! Pamper your self a little, you deserve it.
Brunch with the girls
Sometimes all a mama needs is to be with her friends and have some fun. Brunch is perfect for that! Really any day date with your girl friends is an amazing “getaway” if you will.
Staycation with the hubby
I haven’t done this yet, but I really want to! We are going to Mexico in May for a week without our little guy and that is going to be great. Find a babysitter for a weekend and reconnect with your spouse. Chat, laugh, Netflix and Chill. Have some fun without the kids!
Let’s switch gears for a second on another way self care can look. Self care can be an everyday routine. Find a great morning routine for you, fuel your body with good food, move your body 4 times a week, drink your water, and get good sleep. Seems like a lot, right? Once you get into the routine of this kind of self care you will feel great!
Moral of the story, find yourself some good self care mama! You deserve it!
